A work truck blocks traffic from crossing the nearly completed Bow Bridge on August 17, 2006. Scheduled to re-open in just a few days, the bridge has undergone extensive refurbishing including; additional concrete, made to look like stone, added to the top of the original stone structures that support the bridge; a new roadbed and underlying supports; and a nice paint job. Because the bridge is only one lane wide it will have traffic lights at each end and allow traffic to flow in only one direction at a time. Hadley hopes to have whitewater events on the Sacandaga River that quickly flows beneath the bridge when the Stewart dam upstream releases water. Rodeo holes were underway when the water was low but had to be left uncompleted because of the excessive rain the area received in 2006. (Photo courtesy Peter W. Guerin) |
